Jiangsu Yangtze River Delta Smart Water Research Institute (DWI) is a state-level new district - Nanjing Jiangbei New District and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology campus jointly built a new independent management of urban water intelligent, equipment and information technology research institute, is a national key science and technology platform - Yangtze River ecological civilization Innovation Center of the first institute to join. Registered and established in 2018, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" in meteorology, is committed to the integration of "industry, university and research" and the transformation of scientific research results, serving the important exploration of local governments and national strategies, and is a comprehensive platform for applied research, technology research and development, industrial incubation, international exchanges, personnel training and foreign engineering and consulting services. Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology authorizes the Research Institute to be the operating unit for the marketization of the university's scientific and technological achievements, and to operate and manage the assets formed by the university in the form of technology shares.

The institute is operated by a team of teachers, innovates the system and mechanism, adopts the "double employment system" of enterprises to introduce domestic and foreign high-end talents as technical backbone, aims at major national and local water and environmental issues, develops water environmental sensors, computing simulation software, intelligent process equipment and high-end equipment vehicles, and commits to the industrialization of related technologies and products. Service urban pipe network "regulation and maintenance management" life cycle management, promote the industry's technological transformation and upgrading. The Institute jointly built the "Sino-German Joint Urban Water 4.0 Laboratory" with the Institute for Underground Infrastructure (IKT) of Germany, which has 5,000 square meters of indoor smart water experiment and test platform and 2.5 square kilometers of outdoor pipe network monitoring base. At present, the institute has 5 research and development teams, including software big data, urban hydrometeorology, sewage sludge treatment technology, intelligent robot and equipment integration, trenchless technology, and more than 70 cooperative professors from multiple colleges of Nanxin University and well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad.
